How to get internet connection while in Spain
How to get internet connection while in Spain?
I am going to Spain in September and want to be able to connect to the internet with my laptop while I am away. Any suggestions on a cheap solution?

Look for an Cafe bar with Free Wifi. In most major Towns you should not have any problem finding at least one - times are pretty hard for businesses over here at the moment and bars are doing everything that they can to attract business.

There's internet salas all over the place. I should think they would have wifi. TONS of cafés do...like Starbucks, etc., in the US.

When asking a question like this, why don't you tell us where in Spain you are going to. Where are you staying. If you want a good answer, ask a good question. The question you asked is rather vague!

How common are internet cafes in Spain?
I'm studying abroad in Spain for a year (high school) and am wondering if I will need to bring a laptop. How common are internet cafes- especially in the suburbs?

Whilst Internet Cafe's are still a relatively new concept in rural areas and the suburbs, you will certainly find them in the larger towns and cities. Wifi areas are gaining popularity aswell and are certainly more abundant than Internet cafes. Honestly, I would say that it really depends on the area where you will be studying and you would be better advised to research that area specifically, if you can't, then yes - bring a laptop, which are much cheaper to buy in the UK and US.

There are numerous privately owned call shops (locutorios) in Spain, inside of which you will find telephone booths and internet access. They are very, very reasonable for phone calls and use of their computers is cheap and charged by the hour, or part thereof. I have paid around 2 euros per hour in Southern Spain. Like gas stations in the US...two or three on every block. They cost around a Euro per hour.

=] Common, depending where you are for WiFi coverage but there's also the option of MobileBroadband, which is when you buy a SimCard and connect to the internet this way Or you can BUY WiFi access. - many hotels/motels have Internet access, the Hotel in my town (which belongs to AC) charges 1€ for 20 minutes, but 1€ for 1h is more common

there used to be a lots of internet-cafes. Currently, since the ppl get internet at home, this kind of cafes have gone. But, if u have a laptop, u will be able to go to a normal cofee bar, or pubs, or restaurant. Currently, the most of the pubs (day pubs), have wi-fi. (at least since madrid till the cities in the north of spain.

Internet cafes are getting harder to find in Europe, especially Spain and France, as most students now have laptops and WiFi spots are easy to find. Suggest you bring your laptop especially as you're studying. Just remember to bring a plug adapter, and converter if necessary

Using my US Laptop in Spain and UK
Using my US Laptop in Spain and UK?
I expect to stay in Spain for 4 months and also travel to other European countries (U.K., Italy and France). I am concerned about being able to the Lenovo Thinkpad that I got recently. I know that Spain and most of Europe operate at 220 volts and I may need a transformer to use personal appliances like electric hair dryers, shavers etc. I am looking for specific suggestions from expats who have lived in Spain. Thanks for your insights.

you can buy travel kits. frys sells them. there is also a list in the back of the product telling you which voltages to use for what continents
